Basing on the DHS 2015 revealing that chronic under nutrition and micronutrient deficiency are still the major issues in Rwanda with prevalence of stunting and anemia in children under five estimated at 38%and 37% respectively, SNV launched the Voice for Change Partnership (V4CP) program focusing on Sustainable Nutrition for All (SN4A) with an emphasis on food security and Nutrition Sensitive Value Chains. Increased accessibility and use of fortified crops or products is among the key issues to address under Food and Nutrition security.

Despite the contribution of agro-processing industries in Rwanda on food security, economic development and poverty reduction, and the need to expand a few export crops base such as tea and coffee; the majority of agricultural products are consumed after minimal forms of processing that are performed entirely within the agricultural sector. Fortification strategies such as the provision of multiple micronutrient supplements or the production of fortified or bio-fortified foods may be effective in increasing intake of micronutrients and in turn, reducing micronutrient deficiencies.

It is against this background that SNV in conjunction with IFPRI together with 5 CSOs (ADECOR, IMBARAGA, RDO, CARITAS, and DUHAMIC ADRI) and SUN alliance Rwanda organized a learning and round table discussion for Civil Society organizations to highlight the importance of increased production processing and accessibility on food fortification.
